National Girl Child Day

Image
“To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful, and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams.” -Hillary Clinton Wishing each and every girl, woman out there a very happy National Girl Child Day!!!!!! National Girl Child Day was started back in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child with the aim of highlighting the inequalities faced by girls at many levels in our society. The purpose behind celebrating this day is to create awareness on a number of topics like rights of a girl child, importance of education, proper nutrition and health. The day demands that people must acknowledge the problems which prevent the girl child from exercising her basic rights and find ways to contribute as much as they can to the solution. The theme of National Girl Child Day for 2022 is  “Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow “. Definitely the girls must be given the opportunity not ...

I love my IMPERFECTIONS!!!!!!

Image
"Deeti began to pay more attention towards her flaws and imperfections, and started falling in love with them, she looked more beautiful, like a moon!!” -a line from Amitav Ghosh's book “The Sea of Poppies”. And suddenly I felt that I’m the most beautiful girl in this whole wide world!!!!!! MY IMPERFECTIONS MAKE ME SPECIAL.!!! As they say, there’s nothing more rare, nor more beautiful than a woman being UNAPOLOGETICALLY HERSELF, COMFORTABLE IN HER PERFECT IMPERFECTIONS!!! We all face some sort of judgement by others, some judge us for our looks, some for our colour, body, shape etc. Like I was judged by many for my physical appearance and these judgements take a toll on you, it affects you negatively, but it only affects us when we don’t accept ourselves. Once we start loving our flaws and accept them, we take the first step towards self-love, nothing will really affect you as long as you’re happy with your own self. You won’t even care about what others say or t...

The Double Burden

Image
In the middle age, people had only one notion about the woman; that is, they were born to control the household chores and manage the children. But in today’s world, women empowerment has taken place which has opened new doors for the women to thrive and shine. The majority of Indian women are involved in regular economic activity or productive work. This is in addition to their domestic work which is defined as women's responsibility. The Indian menfolk in general are unwilling to contribute their part in finishing the household work. As a result women are entrusted with the double burden of doing household chores, taking care of her children, husband and be equally good with their job. The home is assumed to be woman's main place of work and working in an office or institution to be secondary. We find, therefore working women trying to do a balancing job between home and workplace which can be equated like balancing on a tight rope. It is common to see A working ...

A Blog especially for my Brother

Image
My Brother, My Guardian Angel When I was born, he gained the title of Big Brother, and all of the responsibility that went with it. He fulfilled all that with all his heart and he continues to do that. He is an angel disguised in human skin. Always protective, ever available, ever generous with his unconditional love, he has been a true friend that I never had in my growing years. I understood the meaning of true friendship through him, which is, giving without expecting in return. He protected me beyond his strength, he made me laugh beyond my sadness, he gave me hope through his eyes, he gave me shoulder to cry, and he was all ears when I wanted to pour my heart out. He continues to be the same. He has seen me at my best and at my worst. He has seen me come last; he has seen me come first. He has seen my lows, he has seen my highs. But through all of this, he has always stood by me like a rock solid pillar. He has always been a father figure to me, ready with best advices, ...

It's not that difficult to be Altruistic!!

Image
All the problems of our times i.e., poverty, terrorism, environmental degradation, religious or linguistic conflict, regional tensions, boundary disputes, are in some way or the other related to the undying desires of human being for more and more acquisition of faux, hollow and meaningless values of life which they have themselves created and standardized. And while we are engaged in this rat race, we lose our mental peace and happiness. The fight for the competitive edge and materialistic success at the cost of each other has made us all in-human, instigating the disgusting and gross worldly scenes that we experience in our day to day life. It is only because, we humans are never satisfied with whatever we have, and we constantly feel deprived of something or the other, the sense of having less than the other person is what led to our restless mind and soul. But, we should always ensure that in our bid to achieve our dreams and fulfil our aspirations, we do not seize the othe...

Maharani Jindan Kaur- True Spirit of Womanhood

Image
Swayed by yet another classic piece by Divakaruni Ma’am, after “The Palace of Illusions” and “The Forest of Enchantments”. She always makes sure that the woman in her novel are portrayed strongly with all the required traits that a true woman must possess, symbolising the spirit of feminism. “People revered his father as the Lion of Punjab, but his mother is the only one they should have called Lioness. In her way, wasn’t she braver than Ranjit Singh? Didn’ t she fight greater obstacles?” This excerpt from Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s novel “The Last Queen” beautifully sums up the character of Rani Jindan Kaur what a brave, fierce, valiant woman she was. From being the daughter of a kennel keeper, a disregarded queen to becoming a fierce woman who got entangled in revenge and political game-play. She became regent when her son Dalip Singh, barely six years old, unexpectedly inherited the throne and went on to become a legendary queen. Being passionate and dedicated towards pr...
